Episode 081: Maptrotting with Charlie – Part 1

“… you’ve got to make a bigger, more fundamental, change to actually bring about the happiness and get away from the situation that you’re currently in.”

This week’s guest is Charlie from Maptrotting. Together with his wife, Kristina, he has been traveling around Southeast Asia for over 180 days now.

“The luxury of time … yeah, that’s the best thing about it.”

While he and Kristina were on a vacation in Cuba they decided they need to make a dramatic change in their lives; like so many of us do while experiencing the freedom a vacation allows. The difference is that they stuck to their decision once they got home and he talks about the various ways they stayed motivated after getting back into the routine of their traditional life.

“So, I’ve done a little bit of traveling in the past and that bug never left so it’s great to be on the road again.”

He also talks the shift in mindset that occurs once you start traveling full-time instead of just on vacation, how they typically handle the visa process, and their scariest moment in all of their travels.

“At that immediate moment, I could see us getting separated and the world became scary.”
